Payments Firm Square May Build a Hardware Wallet, Dorsey Heckled at Bitcoin Conference Over Censorship – Bitcoin News

Square has had its fair share of detractors since it was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for nearly $8 billion. However, the company has recently gone through a number of changes—and some of them are for the better.

Square Inc. has a long history in payments. In particular, since their founding in 2009 they have been focused on making it easy for small businesses to accept mobile payments in their stores, and they have been rewarded for their efforts with over $7 billion dollars in revenue, over $1 billion in net profit, and more than 200,000 active merchants around the world.

The Square Cash card was launched in 2011 as a means for customers to send money to friends and family. The company’s mission is to be a true cash-on-demand (CoD) provider, with no bank account needed for users to send and receive cash.

Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and CEO of payments company Square, said his company is considering creating a hardware bitcoin wallet in collaboration with the community. Dorsey tweeted about it and said he wanted to share some guidelines for this potential venture.

Dorsey: Square is considering a hardware wallet for bitcoin

On Friday, Jack Dorsey spoke on Twitter about Square’s ability to develop a hardware bitcoin wallet and outlined some of the principles guiding the company’s approach. The founder of Twitter and Square said what the company creates should be open, noting that bitcoin is for everyone. Square is planning to develop a hardware wallet for Bitcoin. If we do, we will build it in a completely open way, from software to hardware design, and in collaboration with the community, Dorsey wrote on Twitter. Let’s start this reflection at the right end: let’s share some of our guiding principles. Bitcoin is for everyone. It is important for us to create an inclusive product that brings a no-guard solution to the global market, the Square CEO added. Dorsey then thanked those who have already pioneered storage-free wallets and asked his Twitter followers what were the biggest obstacles to making a storage-free wallet solution available to the next 100 million people? Many people responded to Dorsey’s questions, and several comments mentioned hardware wallets without iOS support. iOS Support. Trezor still doesn’t support iOS (for a good reason). Solve this solvable problem and you get a big piece of the deal, one person responded to Dorsey’s Twitter post. Guarding doesn’t have to be all or nothing, Dorsey continued. We can probably simplify the guardianship with an independent guardianship. Support requires excellent product design, minimal installation time, use of existing equipment and consistent reliability. How should we consider complementary solutions? asked Square’s CEO. He also added: Most people surf the Internet from mobile devices. Every solution we create must deliver a great mobile experience, despite its shortcomings and challenges. An uncompromising focus on mobile interaction is likely to attract the most people. Where’s the danger here?

Dorsey spots with fellow Miamimembers

After Dorsey posted his thread with about 12 different points, he said that Square and his team plan to continue the conversation. He also said that a dedicated Twitter account and repository will be created on Github if the company decides to create a hardware portfolio. We will update this thread with this information when we are ready. Thank you, Dorsey. Dorsey’s tweet about the hardware wallet has received tens of thousands of likes and retweets since he announced Square’s possible hardware wallet project.
